I had a dream last night about the future of SyFy’s lineup of original series. One of them was this trippy affair about this guy who was half shark, but as it went along, it molded into this near-future science fiction romp about this team of scientists and military personnel who lived on this… earthship. It was like a whole craft devoted to drilling. But instead of a conventional drill, it had this arm that extened out from the hub and rotated at blazing speed. This would create a disc of sunken earth around the ship, and this was how they would explore down below.
From what I gathered, the show took place primarily in Arizona, and it was produced in Britain. It was this weird British take on what a near-future Southwest would be like. I also remember there being a recurring villain in the form of a race of underground lizard-men, but they were built heartily and looked a lot like the creatures in the really old black-and-white animation trailer for Spore. Hasbro sold a playset that included the earthship, figures of the main characters, lizard creatures, and a piece of desert with a crater dug by the ship, the wall of which had a door with the symbol of the lizard-things on it. There was also a makeshift catapult with a boulder ready to go.
The theme song was dumb, and Amanda Tapping was a guest star in one featured episode. This is all I remember.
